The natural amphitheatre proves a real test to thoroughbreds

 

Cheltenham Racecourse is a stunning natural amphitheatre. However, it's the undulations of the course, the test of the fences and hurdles and the fight to the finish up the legendary Cheltenham Hill that combine to test the true strength of any thoroughbred racehorse and rider.

 

Cheltenham's Racecourse Map illustrates a general layout of the racecourse facilities; there may be changes on specific racedays - please refer to the racecard for full details of activities for the day.

The Cross Country Steeplechases are a rarity in British sport - a unique set of races not duplicated anywhere else in the UK.

 

Cross Country racing was introduced to Cheltenham in 1995 with the advent of Sunday racing. Since then, two more races over Cheltenham's twisting and turning course of banks, ditches and rails, have been added, with the latest obstacle, 'the cheese wedges', only in use since November 2009.

 

The Glenfarclas Series includes qualifying events in Ireland at Punchestown, in France at Pau and the three Cheltenham events in November, December and March, and rewards any competitor running in all three countries in any nominated race with double prize money at Cheltenham Festival.
