The natural amphitheatre proves a real test to thoroughbreds.

Cheltenham Racecourse is a stunning natural amphitheatre. However, it's the undulations of the course, the test of the fences and hurdles and the fight to the finish up the legendary Cheltenham hill that combine to test the true strength of any thoroughbred racehorse and rider.

The Cross Country Steeplechase course

This course is used for one race each at The November Meeting, The International and The Festival™ each season. The Glenfarclas Cross Country Steeplechases are a rarity in British sport - a unique set of races not duplicated anywhere else in the UK. Cross Country racing was introduced to Cheltenham in 1985 with the advent of Sunday racing. Since then, two more races over Cheltenham's twisting and turning course of banks, ditches and rails, have been added, with the latest obstacle, 'the cheese wedges', only in use since November 2009. The Glenfarclas Series includes qualifying events in Ireland at Punchestown, in France at Pau and the three Cheltenham events in November, December and March, and rewards any competitor running in all three countries in any nominated race with double prize money at the Festival.
